A capacity room attended this year’s Bench and Bar Dinner on November 19, 2008 at the Crystal Ballroom of the Pan Pacific Hotel. Mr. John Hunter, QC, President of the Law Society of British Columbia welcomed the guests to the event and was emcee for the evening. The prayer was given by visiting CBA National President, Mr. Guy Joubert and the toast to the Bar was given by The Honourable Chief Justice Lance Finch. The Toast to the Bench was given by CBABC President Miriam Maisonville. This year’s CBABC winner of the Georges A. Goyer, QC Memorial Award for Distinguished Service was Marvin Storrow, QC, who was presented his award by President Maisonville. President Hunter awarded the winner of the 2008 Law Society Award to John McAlpine, QC. Both recipients gave inspiring and sometimes humorous acceptance speeches and were further honoured by a standing ovation. Read the press release.
