About

This section was launched in Alberta in 2007 as a platform to support the advancement of women in the legal profession by providing networking, mentoring and resource sharing among junior and senior women practitioners. Given the high rate of attrition of women from the practice of law, our mandate is also to explore and develop ways to reverse the trend and to enhance the stature, influence and advancement of women in the law. Six events are planned: Ten hot tips from 5 hot mentors; Women lawyers and judges informal dinner (evening); Appointments to the Court of Queen's Bench and Provincial Court? What is the process and critieria?; Appointments to administrative tribunals in Alberta; what is the process and how can it be imporved? Are women appointed as often as men?; Joint meeting with LSA: round table discussion of senior and junior women in the profession; challenges and opportunities for a successful career; ideas for addressing the hight attrition rate of women from private practice; Communicating inside and outside the court room: do women and men communicate differently? How to get what you want with empowered communication skills.  Program suggestions and volunteers welcome!
